A Fantastic Menu That Has Something For Everyone with a Gourmet Twist
Truxton’s American Bistro is one of our favorite places to go for our family lunch or dinner. All families have been in the situation where they are trying to decide between burgers, Italian food, seafood, sandwiches, etc. Well, what we love about this restaurant is their variety of menu items that allows us all to get something that we are in the mood for. Ever been to a place that tries to make all types of food and they can’t seem to get even one of them just right? Not here! Truxton’s American Bistro makes each variety of food on their item like its their specialty and the variety doesn’t effect the quality of their dishes.
The restaurant itself is clean, cozy, casual and comfortable yet has an upscale vibe. The atmosphere is lively, but not hectic and the service is very good. Truxton’s American Bistro has a variety of seating options from booths and tables to bar tables and bar spots as well as a private room for parties. The prices for their dishes, while not cheap, are affordable and you get a good amount and quality ingredients for what you pay for.
Truxton’s American Bistro Dishes
On our visit there this past weekend, we sampled quite a few menu items of which we loved them all! Obviously, some we loved more than others, but they all had two things in common; tasty and quality ingredients. Below is the food that our family enjoyed at Truxton’s American Bistro on our latest visit.
Appetizers
Truxton’s Monkey Bread is a pull-apart bread with cheddar cheese and garlic. Each pull-apart section is soft, very cheesy and full of flavor. They also offer dipping sauces of which we liked the Marinara sauce the best. We highly recommended the Monkey Bread and it seems to be a favorite of Truxton’s American Bistro diners as well.
The Ancho Honey Glazed Shrimp was delicious and a favorite of our family. It is a crunchy shrimp that is lightly coated in a Sweet Honey Ancho Chili Glaze. It is served with Spicy Wonton Pepita Slaw. Both sound spicy but it had hardly any kick to it and our daughter had no problems eating it. Although it is an appetizer, it can easily be ordered as a main dish for those with a smaller appetite.
Another appetizer that we highly recommend is their Wagyu Beef Sliders. Truxton’s starts with the amazing Wagyu Beef and tops it with crispy onions, blue cheese crumbles and balsamic glaze. These sliders are not that small and are full of flavor. Although my wife is not a big blue cheese fan, she thought it went well with these sliders.
Salads
The Original Bistro Salad was one salad I thought I would never order, but now, it might be the only one I do! For starters, they use organic field greens and romaine. It is topped off with butter squash (not my favorite, but it wasn’t bad), cucumbers, cranberries, feta cheese and toasted almonds with a pomegranate vinaigrette dressing. A very lively and flavorful salad. Another favorite of mine is the Aunt Betty’s BBQ Chicken salad with roasted corn salsa, black beans, tomatoes, tortilla strips and Ranch dressing. Aunt Betty’s salad is seasonal as Truxton’s American Bistro rotates menu items that are shaded green on their menu.
Sandwiches
My wife decided on ordering the Original BBQ Brisket sandwich after having a taste of Truxton’s brisket. This tasty sandwich comes with thinly sliced and slow roasted brisket, BBQ sauce & horseradish coleslaw served on fresh Torta Bread. She though the brisket was very tender, flavorful and worked well with the sauce and slaw. To compliment this sandwich, she ordered a side of sweet potato fires which had a hint of sweetness and saltiness.
Sampled Plates
We sampled their Original 11 Spice Brisket Plate which is a beef brisket, hand rubbed with their special blend of 11 spices. Truxton’s American Bistro brisket is slow roasted for 7 hours, so can you can just imagine how tender and tasty it is. This plate is served with mashed potatoes and horseradish coleslaw. Another flavorful item from their Plates & Favorites portion of the menu is the Sweet & Spicy Shrimp Tacos which has the ancho honey shrimp, spicy coleslaw and served on soft flour corn tortillas.
Burgers
I decided to get the Gilly burger, which I have had before on a previous trip to Truxton’s American Bistro. The Gilly hamburger comes with crispy Applewood smoked bacon, Tillamook cheddar cheese, spicy 1001 dressing, caramelized onions and topped with crispy onions. The burger was absolutely delicious and the combo of ingredients work so well together. I also got the Parmesan garlic fries as my side and they are one of my favorite fries I have had anywhere.
The Kids Menu
Truxton’s American Bistro has a really good kids menu, they call the BistroKidsTM Menu. Kids get great entree choices like a cheese pizza, spaghetti, mac & cheese, hamburger, grilled cheese and turkey sandwich. Our daughter selected the cheese pizza and where most places serve up a tiny kids pizza, Truxton’s American Bistro’s pizza was quite sizable, not greasy and very tasty. The kids meals come with a choice of french fries, fruit, carrot sticks or side salad and a drink. It is definitely worth it and my daughter really enjoyed it!
Desserts
With a half dozen dessert options offered at Truxton’s American Bistro, it was hard to settle on one. After much deliberation between us, we landed on ordering the Bistro Cookie which takes an extra 10 minute for baking. It was well worth the wait. This giant chocolate chip cookie is freshly baked and served in a cast iron skillet. It is topped with a scoop of ice cream, powdered sugar and caramel and chocolate drizzles. It melts in your mouth and is by far one of the best desserts I have had anywhere.
