Pure Hawaiian Paradise at The Westin Maui Resort
On our first trip to Maui, we chose to stay in the city of Lahaina because of its sunny climate, the large resorts, the beautiful beaches and its close proximity to dining, shops and other family activities. And with dozens of good choices for accommodations to choose from in Lahaina, our choice was not an easy one. After a couple of days of deliberation, we ended up choosing to stay at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa.
When we arrived in Maui at the Kahului Airport, we rented a car and drove about an hour to the Lahaina resort. The directions and the drive down to the Westin Maui were so easy that you would have thought I lived there my whole life. From the airport you exit onto the 380 which dead-ends into the 30 which you the take all the way until you hit Ka’anapali Pkwy and then you are at the resort. Easy Peasy!

Westin Maui Resort Property
As we pulled into the Westin Maui Resort we ran into our first and only issue we had with this resort. They have a self-park parking lot and a valet parking lot. The self-park parking lot gets full in the early evening and you have to drive around and hope to get a spot. By the morning we saw people that had double parked their cars behind other cars. We recommend either valeting your car or getting to the self-park lot before the later hours of the night. Once you overcome this one obstacle, you are in for a wonderful stay at a top-notch Hawaiian resort.
As we walked into the lobby of the Westin Maui Resort, we saw one of the most beautiful and impressive indoor/outdoor lobbies we have seen. The covered indoor portion of the lobby looks out into the outdoor area which is a large lagoon with waterfalls, tons of Koi fish, black swans, flamingos and other tropical birds. Just a beautiful sight to sit and watch and it makes the wait in line at check-in much more pleasant. Along the side of the lagoon on the way to the pool and beach area, they have some parrots in large tropical bird cages as well as some sitting on bird perches. During our stay, we were given food to feed the two black swans, Kramer and Newman (love the names) as well as the Koi fish. This was a big hit with our daughter.
Dining: The Westin Maui resort offers a variety of dining options from the Wailele Polynesian Luau and Relish Burger Bistro to the Colonnade Café with an open air dining area overlooking the lagoon as well as poolside drinks and snacks.
Westin Kids Club: The Kids Club offers children ages 5 to 12 fun activities like a photo adventure tour and older kids can play water volleyball or take surf lessons. We unfortunately were so busy all week that we never had a chance to get Madi into one of the Kids Club activities.
Fitness Gym: Westin Maui has a 2,000 square-foot fitness center that is open 24 hours. It has free weights, weight and cardio machines and overlooks the Westin’s tropical surroundings.
Westin Maui Resort Pools
One of the reasons we chose to stay at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa was the impressive swimming pools they have. All of us, especially our daughter, love to spend time swimming when we go on vacation. At the center of the Westin Maui resort is a beautiful and massive 87,000 square-foot water playground. The swimming pools are interconnected with each other so there is no need to keep getting out of one pool to go into another. Above the other pools, there is a separate adults only pool that is tucked away amongst the tropical gardens as well as a secluded Jacuzzi.
The interconnected free-form swimming pools offer a variety of depths and activities for kids of all ages as well as adults. The most popular activity for the older kids and adults has to be the large waterslide that is two stories high, has 270° turns and a 23 foot drop into the deep end of the pool. Other activities include volleyball, basketball and a smaller waterslide for the younger kids. Two of the pools are connected by a pool tunnel which has waterfalls cascading over both entrances and a hidden Jacuzzi type pool inside the tunnel. All of the pools have different depths for each one, so you should be able to find a good spot for your kids to swim in. Getting a Chaise lounge chair by the pool was not an issue either because there were lounge chairs setup lining each side of the massive pools.
If you and your kids love spending time swimming and lounging by the pool while on vacation, this resort will be the place you want to stay at. With the variety of pools, the amount of activities and the beautiful and family friendly setting, this is one of our favorite hotel or resort pools. Our daughter enjoyed it so much that we had a tough time getting her out of the water each and every day.
Ka’anapali Beach
As if the pools were not enough, the Westin Maui resort is situated on prime Maui beachfront. Just past the pools of the Westin Maui and the beachwalk is the beautiful Kaanapali Beach. With white sands and clear blue waters, this is a wonderful beach to have in front of your resort. This white sand beach is about 3 miles long and about half of that distance is lined with a great paved beachwalk towards the top of the beach. A really nice walk along the beach is the 1/2 mile stroll north to Black Rock which has fun surf, a famous cliff dive and snorkeling.
There is plenty of fun to be had on the Ka’anapali Beach from playing in the surf, walking to Black Rock, laying out in the Hawaiian sun or doing a beach activity. The Westin Maui rents out beach chairs and umbrellas, boogie boards, stand-up paddle boards, kayaks and surf boards. You can also pay for group, semi-private or private surf lessons or a stand-up paddle (SUP) board lesson.
Westin Maui Resort Rooms
We had the pleasure of staying in an oceanview room with an incredible panoramic view of the resort’s pools, Ka’anapali beach, the island of Lanai and stunning sunsets over the ocean. The rooms come with a private balcony with two chairs, wide-screen flat-panel TV, pillow-top Heavenly Beds®, and a mini refrigerator. The mini fridge was of great help as we kept cold drinks and snacks in the room and didn’t need to leave the room for instance to get our daughter a glass of milk in the late evening. The room also had a sink and small counter which was a nice addition to the mini fridge. Our beds were super comfy, the room was very clean and our daughter loved the desk for drawing and coloring.
The views from our room were almost enough to recommend it by itself. But if you add in the mini fridge/kitchen, the comfortable beds, the nice flatscreen TV and the overall cleanliness of the room, you can understand why we enjoyed our stay at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa.
