Shula Burger Dishes Out Gourmet Burgers in a Casual Atmosphere
On our last family and friends’ vacation in Orlando, our group stopped by Shula Burger for a quick dinner. The restaurant is a nice and casual burger place with an upscale twist added to it. With the little extras like the servers bringing the food to your table, offering salads and veggie burgers as well as beer and wine, Shula Burger goes a bit beyond the traditional burger joint.
In case it isn’t obvious – and it wasn’t to everyone in our group – Shula Burger is named after Don Shula, the NFL player and Hall of Fame Coach. The restaurant is located along the Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy which is a tourist hot spot due to its close proximity to the Disney parks as well as plenty of shops and restaurants. Although its location is on a busy highway, the restaurant has plenty of parking and is a breeze to get in and out of the area.
Shula’s Signature Burgers
Shula Burger starts off by making their patties with a fresh blend of Black Angus Beef, Short Rib and Brisket for a nice and juicy burger. In addition to the one classic cheeseburger, there are nine different signature burgers to choose from. Each of the burgers are served on a brioche style bun that is brand marked with the Shula name.
The nine signature burgers have a nice range of flavors that you and the kids should like or you can just create your own burger if you have something specific in mind. We had a good range of the burgers in our group and everyone enjoyed their choices. Here are some of the signature burgers we tried on our visit:
Shula’s BBQ burger comes with a healthy potion of double cut peppered bacon, cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce. This was the burger I ordered and the thick and crispy bacon combined with the sauce made this burger a true winner.
The Don is a burger topped with hot dog and comes with pickles, onion sauce, american cheese, ketchup and yellow mustard.
The Big “O” burger comes with a huge onion ring, oak smoked pulled pork, orange slaw, chipotle BBQ sauce and cheddar cheese.
Mushroom Swiss is topped with sauteed mushrooms and swiss cheese.
California Burger has sliced avocado, tomato, cucumber and balsamic greens.
Apps & Sides
To go along with their good burgers is a nice assortment of appetizers and sides. Amongst our group we ordered everything except for the Sweet Potato Tots. Our favorite of the bunch was the Blue Cheese and Bacon Chips which is a large pile of thick and crispy potato chips topped with bacon pieces, blue cheese crumbles, a small amount of blue cheese dressing and green onions. We ate those so fast that we didn’t even get a picture of them before they were gone.
Another great appetizer is the 50/50 which is a half order each of lightly battered fired pickles and banana peppers. The kids loved the fried pickles and the adults enjoyed both. All of us either got sea salt fries or onion rings along with our burgers and they were both very tasty. The onion rings are pretty large, perfectly fried and real crispy.
Kids Meals, Salads & More
Shula Burger has five different menu items (cheeseburger, hot dog, chicken tenders, grilled cheese and chix n’ stix) to choose from for their kids meals which comes with a kid size drink and a choice of fruit and veggie sticks or fries.
For those that are burger’d out from their days in and around the theme parks, Shula Burger has three freshly prepared salads to choose from as well as other lighter choices like the grilled chicken sandwich, veggie burger and the turkey burger.
